Memorial Day

Owen enjoyed his first trip to the lake.

A very flooded lake.

Nate and Brian braved the frigid waters, while I watched from the shore.

Since we didn't spend as much time on the lake, we took a few stroller rides, the boys went golfing, and we had plenty of time to hang out.

Like father.

Like son.

You have to feel sorry for the poor little lad.

We forgot wipes.  Who forgets wipes?  They're one of the most vital baby supplies.

The gas station didn't carry them either.  Luckily they did have napkins.  Poor guy.  Granny and Gramps were up the road a few hours and saved the day with a trip to Walmart.  Crisis averted.

On Sunday we ventured onto the lake.

 Clearly Owen was excited.

The curious boy couldn't stay asleep for long.

Granny is alot of things...

but she isn't a family pic photographer.  Her specialties seem to be dog and plant photography.

Failed attempt #1

Failed attempt #2
(she did capture her pride and joy, just cut off everyone else:)

Failed attempt #3
(finally got all of the heads, but now the pride & joy is blinking)
Next time.

Oh, and we have a new contender for baby hog...

We had a great weekend and look forward to many more lake trips to come.

Saturdays

We love them!

No rushing.

Just playing.

Probably not as productive as we could be.

But how can you resist this face?

Dust or Play?

Tough choice.

But we can't ignore the laundry for long.

This boy has been dirtying his clothes as fast as we can wash them.

 So worth the extra laundry.

Even though we may run around like crazy people all week,

Saturdays are for playing.

Take Me Out to the Ball Game

We took Owen to his very first K-State game.  We aren't big baseball fans but always like to go watch K-State play WSU.  I guess I should be honest, I just go to socialize.  It's impossible to not run into people you know.  We met the Andrew, Ali, and Casey at the game and enjoyed our cheap seats in the outfield, which technically come with no seats.

Owen LOVES to people watch.  He also has fun with these two.

Someone needs a baby of his own...

Lesson of the night:  when the only place to park the stroller carrying your precious cargo is a steep incline and there really isn't anywhere to let him down to play, be sure to bring a carrier of some sort.  We are slow at this parenting thing, but are learning as we go.  My arms were JELL-O from holding that little tank all night.  Oh well, we still had fun.  Enjoyed our night at the ball field.

Maybe we will become Wingnut fans this summer...

Off to School

We'd been mentally preparing for weeks.  I knew it was coming...

But somehow, it still seemed to sneak up on me.  Time to go back to work.  Which meant, it was time for Owen's first day of school.  Papa took it upon himself to snap a few shots of Owen before his first day.  Such a good dad!

Owen didn't seem nervous at all.  I wish I could have said the same for myself.

We are happy to report that he survived.  He seems to be doing well.  He doesn't even hate me (one of my crazy fears).  And, we're adjusting too.  Nate is such a HUGE help.  I don't know how people do this by themselves.  He get's Owen ready everyday and helps at night too.  Gone are the days of free time...which is why I am SO behind with this blog.  But, what a wonderful trade-off.

We try and absorb all we can of the little guy when we're home, which means he gets roped into doing laundry every now and again (excuse my appearance).

 We play until bedtime.

And look forward to our next time together.

Who can ever have a bad day when you get to come home to this sweet face.

I should say sweet faces.  Love you Nate!

Mother's Day

My very first.

Of course I've celebrated it for several years.  I've always loved the day.  I've always loved getting to make my mom feel special.  Giving a small gift, sometimes just a card or call.  A small gift, because I could never come close to matching everything she has given me.  It has always been a day to make sure she knows how much she's truly appreciated and loved.  But Mother's Day was completely different this year.

I got to experience it from the other side of the fence.

So lucky.

So blessed.

I hope that I will be as great of a mom to him as Nate and I had.

That I will be able to provide all that he needs.

My first Mother's Day was absolutely amazing and not because of the lovely card or massage.
[Although I must say, the massage was glorious.  Good job, Owen!]
It was amazing because it was a day spent with family.

I am blessed beyond measure.  So thankful for this little man.  For our family.  Thankful for the love I've been given and even more thankful that I get to pass along that same love.

So thankful for the gift of motherhood.
