Sunday Fun Day

Our little mover has really been keeping us going.

 He LOVES to be outside.

And luckily, we've had great weather for his new found passion.

We've been going to the park just about every night,
and I have a sneaking suspicion that I will be spending countless hours there over the next few years.

It won't be long before our little outdoors man can run over there by himself.

I sometimes wonder what I used to do with my time.
I can tell you it wasn't as fun as watching this guy do squats.

Or as sweet as watching him stroll around the yard with his papa.

Kim K and The Real Housewives were entertaining, but they've got nothing on this kid.

First Words

 We think.

Owen has been babbling for awhile now,
but we think his babbles correlate to people & things closely enough
that we can call them his first words.

For instance,

while Owen was with the grandfolks...

he learned to lift his hand and say "gump" to
make Freddy jump into the air.
My mom swears he got the "j" out once, but we haven't heard it yet.

Since we have no dog,
Nate and I also jump when Owen instructs us :)

 He's been mamamaa-ing and dadadaa-ing,
but until recently, it was just babble.

Now when he wants his momma, he reaches for me and says, "maaaammm".
I'm hoping he reverts back to momma or mommy, before shooting straight for mom :)
And to keep us both wrapped around his finger,
he's also shot out a few daaad's to Nate.

And what else?

Well, one more thing.
He can't quite tell you that cows "moo", but he will give you a, "mmmmmm".
And he can't really tell you, until you tell him at least once...
so he's more mimicking, but it's still fun.

And a bonus pic from "Christmas" with Uncle Brian.

We can't let these two play for too long by themselves,
there's no telling what Owen would try and say next.

Home Alone

Owen experienced his first weekend without Mom or Dad.
Unlike little Kevin McCallister, he wasn't actually Home Alone.
He stayed with my parents.

He sure makes it tough to leave, though.
I just kept telling myself,
he's having fun,
Grandma and Grandpa are having fun,
I'm having fun.
A win/win/win situation.
:)

So, why in the world would we ever leave our little baby doll?
Nate and I made a quick trip down to the Cotton Bowl in Dallas.
Owen has done well at several games, but we just figured
all the time in the car + the long game = cranky babe.

And like I said, we knew leaving him behind would be a win/win/win.
Can you tell that I'm still getting over the guilt?

We left Thursday afternoon and had the best travel buddies!
Kaylee and I can talk for hours.
Bryce and Nate enjoy movies :)

We also had an amazing hostess in Dallas, we stayed with Kaylee's sister, Maggie.
Nate really lucked out, we didn't do any shopping.
None.
We woke up Friday morning and went straight to Dallas Stadium.

We planned to get lunch along the way.

1st try
Lee Harvey's, home of Dallas' best burger.
But, if you aren't from the area, the place can easily be mistaken for a crime scene.

2nd try
Former site of Big Mike's something or other

3rd try's a charm

Boomer Jack's even let us stay parked for the game for free!

It was love at first sight for Nate and Dallas Stadium.

We were able to see SO many wonderful friends.
It almost seemed like we ran into more K-State friends in Dallas than we do in Manhattan.
Saw several people from work, and Nate's cousins, too.

"Wow, this is amazing."
Nate's first words when we stepped inside.
He was in love.
And no, these are not our seats.

Still not our seats, just looking around.

Finally, our seats.  Top row, top section.  Not kidding.

But, I'm guessing the people sitting in the first section couldn't admire Old Glory like we could.

I actually liked our seats.  They were great for viewing play formations.
And for detailed views, we could easily use the  JUMBOtron.

Our lovely top row crew
We forgot about the terrible loss and had a delicious brunch on Saturday morning, then headed north to see O.
We're lucky to have such great friends.  Had so much fun!

And just as we'd expected, my parents had a great time, though they probably needed Sunday to rest.
Owen had a great time and even learned how to get Freddy (my parent's dog) to jump and roll over.
I know, I had to see it to believe it too.

Win/Win/Win

Except for the Cats

Happy 10-ish Months!

So, we are combining my 9 and 10 month posts.

You can blame it on the busyness of the holidays.

Or just blame it on my mom.

I've been holding steady in 12 - 18 month clothes, though some of my pants are getting a bit short...I'm probably a solid 18-month when it comes to length.

When I went for my 9 month check-up, I was in the 95th percentile on height and the 90th on weight.
Mom and Dad didn't realize I was already 31 inches long, so they had to quickly install the new carseat.

After the whole Thanksgiving debacle, they have been pretty careful when trying new food.  I have always been such a good eater, so Mom and Dad have been completely surprised that I am a bit picky when it comes to table food.  Whenever she tries something new and I don't like it, I make a crazy face so she'll stop.  But, the girl's persistent, so I have to spit everything out/throw it on the floor to let her know.

I do like carbs.  Runs in the family.
Cookies, crackers, cereal...love it all.  And just like my Dad, I love me some Saltines.

Fruit is also delicious.  Clementines, blueberries, bananas, apple sauce...I will eat any fruit.
Mom thinks she's sooo smart.  When I won't eat one of those gross baby food mixtures, she tries to front load the spoon with apple sauce.  I'm on to her...

I'm picky when it comes to meat and veggies.  They keep trying and I keep spitting it out.
They say I can't survive on squash and sweet potatoes the rest of my life.  We'll see...

I am drinking 4 7-ounce bottles of formula each day.
I love water too, but have not yet mastered the sippy cup.

I refuse to wear a hat.  Even though it's cold out.

I get startled and have this adorable, "I know I shouldn't be doing this face" whenever I'm caught trying to go up the stairs, making a beeline for the toilet, trying to play with the trash can, etc.  It's only adorable until they try and redirect me.  I'm persistant too.

I'm getting a little bit of an attitude.  Not bad yet, but Mom and Dad are fearful of what's to come.  I arch my back, stiffen my legs, and scream for a couple seconds whenever they try and move me somewhere I don't want to be (away from the trash, bathroom, etc.).  So it sounds like its's their fault.

I take one nap in the morning and one in the afternoon.
And other than the week my teeth were pushing through, I still sleep all night.

My parents are still obsessed with me, but I'm sure you know that by now.

And I think that just about covers it.

Life is good.

Love, Owen
