Wedding Season

I've been meaning to post this photo strip from a friend's wedding in April.
Grandpa wanted Owen to go in the photo booth with him.
Not sure what he thought about it, but I can only guess...

"What are these goofy old folks doing with me now??"

One Year-ish

 Owen turned one in March,
but we didn't get around to his one year shoot until April.
We canceled on our poor photog on more than one occasion.
Between hand, foot, and mouth, and the toddler room transition,
little O was a little less than camera ready on a few different occasions.

I took a morning off, so we could catch Owen at the beginning of his day.
It happened to be the windiest spring morning.

So, I have absolutely loved every stage with my little boy.
Loved when he was so itty bitty and could nuzzle on my chest
Loved his very first smiles.
His determination as he tried to roll, then crawl, then walk.

And even though I am one of those moms who gets a bit weepy taking
baby clothes out of his drawers and replacing them with little boy clothes,
I am absolutely loving the stage we are venturing into now.

Such a sweet personality.
He can now give us hugs and kisses.
Open mouth, sloppy kisses.
Love them!
We are now learning to blow kisses.
We practiced blowing kisses to grandma as she got in her car to leave the other night.
The next morning, Owen blew Nate a kiss and then got in his kiddie car.

 He is getting so smart.
I know I am his mom and I am partial, but he is really putting things together.
He's learned a few more signs and has added bobba (bottle) and bubba (bubbles)
to his extensive vocab of momma and dad.
He can also nod his head yes and no.

He loves to do anything we do:
sweep the floor, wash his face, brush his teeth.
Loves dragging pans and other similar objects around the floor pretending to vacuum.
Enjoys dancing and attempting to jump.

And because the world is full of trade-offs,
with all of his new learning and exploring comes independence.
"No" doesn't go over well at all,
and redirecting is a bit difficult with this persistent fella.

Everyone always asks us if Owen is happy all the time.
We seriously hear it all the time, "does he ever not smile?"
To answer the question, yes.
In fact, we recently had a melt-down in Wal-Mart.
I am sure their floor is super clean...
a great place to fling down your body and scream.

To his credit, we were past lunch time and getting close to nap time.
Plus, who hasn't felt like melting down in the check-out line at Wal-Mart?

Generally, Owen is a great babe.  And he does smile a whole lot.  We are very blessed.

He still eats great.  In fact, I don't know where he puts it all.
He can down an entire banana.  In less than 3 minutes.
Nate says he could compete with Kobayashi...or whoever the current hot dog eating champ is...
Some nights I think he eats more than I do.
So if we end up on Maury with an obsese child...you'll know why.

He is wearing 24 month on top (takes lots of fabric to get over that belly)
and 18 month on bottom. In size 4 diapers and weighs about 28 pounds.
Still around the 90th percentiles on height and weight.

There is no way for words to ever describe how much I love this little guy.
Which is why I kiss and hug on him all the time.
Which is why I have a cold right now.
Completely worth it.

He Lives!

Easter weekend was filled with SO many hightlights, I thought it best to make a list.

Here goes:

 1) We finally met our sweet nephew, Noah.

 Little brother to Max.

 2) Owen took his very first farm tour with Grandpa.

Max was hilarious...he just walked behind, checking everything out, snacking on raisins he had tucked away in his pocket.  Come to find out, raisins are a risky snack for a curious little boy.
Max got one stuck up his nose later that week.
I have no doubt we will have many similar tails to tell in the years ahead...

Owen has not yet warmed up to the horsies...

 or the kitties.

But he did love the tractor!  It was SO much bigger than his toy version.  He was in heaven!

 3) We confirmed the fact that we still act too childish to be parents.

This is what we do when our child naps.

Nate and I were definitely having as much fun as Max.  We really need a trampoline of our own.  Maybe we will wait until Owen gets older and we can say it's for him.
:)

He joined us as soon as he woke up.
Like mother, like son.

 4) We finally made use of the egg dying kit I bought last year.
I was a bit unrealistic last April when I thought I would continue our family tradition of dying eggs with my 1-month old son.

This year, we still didn't let him in on the action.  It would have been a disaster.
Next year he will be ready. :)

5) Learned this awesome trick from Rachel Ray that morning.  It worked beautifully.
Just think how smart I could be if I could watch day time TV everyday...

6) Owen went on his first Easter egg hunt.

He quickly gave away the fact that he was an amateur.
All his cousins left to hunt and he just hung out on the step...no idea what to do.

Luckily Grandma was there to help.

7) I got to hang out with all my paparazzi friends.

8) Owen discovered his new love, bubbles!

 9) We got to spend time with Nate's whole family!
This doesn't happen nearly enough.
Love them!

10) We got to see the unique personalities that our niece and nephews are developing.  Max had us laughing on several occasions and Tessa is the absolute sweetest girl you'll ever meet.

Noah is a pretty laid back little man.

11) We also got to see Nate's grandparents, aunts, uncles, and most cousins.  Including these two.

Nate wished these guys lived much closer.  He would be playing Nerf guns all the time.
Yes, he is close to thirty.

Adorable.

 12) Owen had such fun with his cousins.  Although he wasn't a good sharer (I hope it's a phase), he improved as the weekend progressed.  Tessa and Max were pretty patient with the little guy.

13) We were able to attend the Easter service at the assisted living home where Nate's grandpa lives.  Fielding has an amazing voice and sang a beautiful hymn during the service.
A definite highlight of our weekend and a perfect way to celebrate Easter.

I serve a risen Saviour; He's in the world today.
I know that He is living, whatever men may say.
I see His hand of mercy, I hear His voice of cheer,
And just the time I need Him He's always near.

He lives! He lives! Christ Jesus lives today!
He walks with me and talks with me along life's narrow way.
He lives! He lives! Salvation to impart!
You ask me how I know He lives? He lives within my heart.

In all the world around me I see His loving care,
And though my heart grows weary I never will despair.
I know that He is leading, through all the stormy blast;
The day of His appearing will come at last.

Rejoice, rejoice, O Christian! Lift up your voice and sing
Eternal hallelujahs to Jesus Christ, the King!
The Hope of all who seek Him, the Help of all who find,
None other is so loving, so good and kind.

He lives! He lives! Christ Jesus lives today!
He walks with me and talks with me along life's narrow way.
He lives! He lives! Salvation to impart!
You ask me how I know He lives? He lives within my heart.
